Choate Corporate Office

PROJECT BACKGROUND
Choate Construction Company is a leading general contractor in the Southeastern United States. Committed to sustainability and improved building quality, Choate Construction’s expansion into a new office space in Charlotte, NC was the perfect opportunity to demonstrate this commitment by constructing a LEED Gold, 18,000 square foot interior of their own. By becoming the first privately held LEED Gold certified commercial interior space in Mecklenburg County, NC, both Redline Design Group and Choate Construction are leading their clients by example.

PROTECTING THE ENVIRONMENT
This project utilized regional materials to minimize pollution associated with longer transportation distances, as well as to support the local economy. Nearly 46% of the materials in this space come from the immediate region. This includes materials which are both extracted and manufactured within 500 miles of the project. Not only does this enable a minimizing of pollution from transportation, but the office space also cuts down on the use of virgin materials. The interior space is built with more than 40% pre-consumer and post-consumer recycled content. The preference of recycled over raw materials decreases waste generated and allows the natural ecosystem to flourish. Through controlled waste collection strategies, 49 tons of construction wastes are diverted from landfills. This rigorous practice of recycling eliminates 86% of landfill wastes for the entire project.
