Pit Training/Wellness Center

Hendrick Motorsports separates itself from its competition by mere fractions of seconds. In the Pits, crew members work in complete unison to shave time off of the driver's pit stops. Many say that most races are won in the pits and when competition is as strong as it is in NASCAR, a well-trained Pit Crew makes or breaks you. That is why Hendrick had REDLINE Design Group design a 19,000 s.f. facility for the Training & Wellness of its 5 pit crews and staff. This facility would house a mock pit garage complete with all the amenities they will have at the track. Adjacent to this garage would be a 300' long pit lane. This will allow drivers to achieve actual pit lane speeds and simulate exact track conditions.

The Wellness Center program includes a ground floor fitness area. This space would be overlooking an existing pond. Gracious locker rooms and restroom facilities will support this space on the 2nd floor above.

Also located on the 2nd floor are support offices, a physician's office, resource room, whirlpool room, treatment rooms, break room and conference room. An added feature of this building is a large 4,000 s.f. exhibition space for sponsor & media events, photo shoots, weekly Bible studies and corporate functions. A full-service catering kitchen will serve this space.

The building is located at the heart of the HMS Campus, and acts as a unifying element. Figuratively it signifies Hendrick's commitment to providing healthy, well-trained employees as the heart of its organization. The building is nestled into the bank of a large slope, helping the building reduce in elevation and volume. This also allows the pit training and workout areas to open directly onto a lower grade closer to the level of the pond. A continuous cast-in-place concrete site retaining wall will act as an anchor element between the site and the building by becoming part of the actual façade of the building. This wall symbolizes the pit wall of the track that is so iconic to racing. Fans will be able to walk up to this wall and overlook the teams as they practice their pit stops, something all fans love to watch. The upper level is on grade with a large grassed area that will be used for tent functions during race season. The ultimate goal of this facility is to achieve higher levels of performance and health for its teams as well as provide greater amenities for it sponsors.
