Located in Wiesbaden, Germany and throughout the world, SGL Group - The Carbon Company is a world leader in the manufacture of carbon-based products. Their product portfolio includes carbon and graphite products as well as carbon fibers and composites. Their existing North American headquarters in Charlotte, NC no longer met the needs of their staff nor did it successfully project their Brand image to industry colleagues and business partners. Redline was given an opportunity to assist The SGL Group with the design and relocation of their North American corporate headquarters in Charlotte, NC. This 22,000 sf up-fit would need to reflect The SGL Group's global presence as the leading carbon company. We achieved their goals by developing a space plan that is efficient, allows for future growth and incorporates an architectural design which reflects a clean and streamlined European aesthetic through the use of butt glazed glass systems to divide spaces, open workstations and oversized sidelights at offices to maximize natural light and exposed painted structure with floating ceiling planes to create a sense of volume. Care was taken to incorporate finish materials and artwork into the design that reinforce their brand including wall fabrics with an abstracted carbon fiber texture, display areas for corporate graphics and sculptural product displays and the use of environmentally responsible materials like cork flooring, Low-VOC paints and materials with recycled content to reinforce their support of production-integrated environmental protection products.
