The Grand at 81 Mary
Charlotte, NC
30,000 SF
81 Mary Street is a Historic Train Depot Warehouse structure built in 1857 by the SCRR Freight Company. The Charleston School of Law occupied half of the building for years until they moved. Duvall Catering, in partnership with Best Impressions Catering in Charlotte, combined forces to lease the facility and repurpose the space for an Event Venue, breathing life back into a historic place. The first step was to gut the space and expose the beautiful, intricate arched wood trusses. This helped keep the space open for larger functions and to showcase the delicate detailing of the historic structure, which has unsurpassed character and charm. Because of the weight limits of such an old structure, Redline reinforced the structure and helped design custom, lightweight glass tube chandeliers. A throw-back stage with ornate scroll work frame becomes the focal point of the space. A large, built-in bar with vintage detailing and delicate, Charlestonesque canopy greets visitors in the pre-function, cocktail space. The space also features vintage-detailed restrooms with high-end finishes and a bridal suite that transports guests to another time and place with a deep sense of romanticism. The result is a one-of-a-kind experience that is transcendent of time and place.
